We are staying busy with camp this week. It's HOT!!! It is about 40 degrees every day and no one seems to even notice. We have a good turnout of about 75 children aged 8-11 years old. They seem to be paying close attention during the chapel times. I speak in the morning and evening and Tammy is speaking to them during the afternoons. Tammy is sharing the story of Eric Liddell.
Heather is a camper this week and is enjoying making new friends. To be honest, we don't seem to quite fit in here in America like we used to. We are looking forward to coming home. The boys stayed with Tammy's parents in Seattle this week and will be bringing them down here to California on the weekend.
We are teaching the children some good Scottish words and they seem to be having a lot of fun.

We miss you all very much and can't wait to see you again.
Take care and God bless.
Pastor Glen.

The Pressure's Off

I've begun reading the book The Pressure's Off for the second time. It struck me again how difficult it is to accept the idea that I don't have the control I think I have. I like the way the book put it, saying that we have "influence" rather than "control". It is true that doing things the "right way", following the "rules" will generally lead to a smoother life, but there are no guarantees and we shouldn't want them. Although many of the concepts that are mentioned in the book are not new, it makes a refreshing reminder that our goal is not material, but eternal. Our goal should not be blessings but God. However, I find it hard to give up a pursuit of a smooth life and just go after God. We are just now in a place that I can use the internet with any length.
We have arrived safely in the U.S. The journey from Aberdeen was great, albeit, long.
We are currently in Northern California. Last night we stayed in a town called, Redding. Redding is located on a large interstate just before entering a mountain range.
Yesterday, we noticed all along the journey (which started in Los Angeles) that the sky was quite smokey. We realised why when we reached Redding. The mountains were on fire. It was a very eerie sight.
We have been reminded of God's faithfulness and greatness several times along the journey. We are also missing everyone at Church a lot, already!
Since being here, we are starting to realise how we have made Britain our home and we miss many things already. When we first moved to Scotland, there were some words that we banned because it reminded us of things we missed in America. Now, we have banned words that remind us of Scotland. Words like; chips and chocolate! And, we can't get a descent cup of tea to save our lives!!!
I haven't been able to read too much of our book, "The Pressure's Off" yet. I have been doing a lot of driving and my free time has been spent working on a some of the presentation details for our time here. I will post something on the blog on Saturday night (which would be Sunday morning for you in Scotland!)
Have a great day and pray for us as we will also be praying much for each of you!!
We miss you.
Pastor Glen

Welcome

Welcome to Westhill Baptist Church Chat.
