The Pressure's Off
I've begun reading the book The Pressure's Off for the second time. It struck me again how difficult it is to accept the idea that I don't have the control I think I have. I like the way the book put it, saying that we have "influence" rather than "control". It is true that doing things the "right way", following the "rules" will generally lead to a smoother life, but there are no guarantees and we shouldn't want them. Although many of the concepts that are mentioned in the book are not new, it makes a refreshing reminder that our goal is not material, but eternal. Our goal should not be blessings but God. However, I find it hard to give up a pursuit of a smooth life and just go after God. Tammy

I am working through the book and am amazed, once again, at how Larry puts things into perspective. He is stating things that may seem obvious, but then when he makes the applications, they hit home very hard.
I am challenged by the thought that we aren't supposed to seek God's blessings nearly so much as we are to seek God, Himself. But how do you seek God without seeking His blessings? That is the challenge, isn't it? Differentiating between God, Himself, and the things that God blesses us with.
Wanting good and nice things isn't wrong. Seeking after them at the expense of seeking after God is most certainly wrong.
I hope you are keeping up in the book. Take care, Pastor Glen.
